Weighed before it matters
Substantial Security is our security division. Its assessment engine, Tekel, tests web applications and the code behind them, and every finding comes with the evidence to reproduce it. Our own apps are tested with it.
Tekel takes its name from Daniel 5:27: “Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.”
How we protect you
The database decides who sees what
Access rules are enforced by the database itself, not only by the app. A person reaches their own data and their group's, and nothing else.
Tested before it ships
Every change runs through automated tests, including tests that deliberately break a rule to prove the rule holds. Our code is scanned continuously for vulnerabilities and leaked secrets.
Staff access is narrow and recorded
Our staff tools require a two-factor sign-in, give each person only the role they need, and record every action taken.
Your data is not for sale
We carry no advertising and sell nothing about you. The services we rely on process data only on our instructions.
Children are protected
In Emberside, every shared picture is checked against Project Arachnid's database of known abuse material, and conversations that include a minor are screened for grooming and harm. Learn more

If you believe you've found a vulnerability in any of our apps or sites, write to us. Please include what you found and how to reproduce it, and give us time to fix it before sharing it publicly.
